“No sports”? Where Winston Churchill was wrong

Most of us sit too much: at our desks, in meetings, on the sofa. However, we evolved as hunters and gatherers – and therefore primarily as runners – but we have simply suppressed this fact over the last few centuries. Yeah, yeah, we are smarter now, we have gym memberships and two pairs of running shoes. But why, actually? Sure, there's the issue of heart health: a trained heart simply supplies our nerve cells with nutrients better and for longer, thus ensuring a healthy brain. But in fact, everything in the brain is geared towards motor skills – by moving, we not only change the world, but also learn better, cope better with stress, keep our psyche healthy, and regenerate faster. And while our cerebrospinal fluid sloshes around in the cavities of the brain as we run, it stimulates the production of new nerve cells for the memory center in the subventricular zone right next to it.But we still sit too much. And we eat too much; that's modern life. But you can influence both factors. If you love your brain and want to live a good life with it for as long as possible, perhaps start with Annika Röcker's motivational text: ‣ Sport: An all-round Happiness Package for Body and Mind.
