Protein Highways

Here you can see the network of dendrites from three nerve cells. Dendrites receive data from other nerve cells and process it for possible transmission to downstream neurons. Using an immunochemical staining technique, the researchers have made this communication network visible by imaging a protein that occurs in the intracellular “highways.” These highways are used to transport cellular cargo.
