Lifing under pressure

It is said that it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert in any field. So it is probably stress that we are all experts in: everyday life, relationships, parents, money, careers, children, war and climate change, meetings, neighbors, politics, technology, superiors, changes of all kinds – the opportunities to gain experience in stress are endless. And then, of course, there is time: not much of it has passed between the spread of the clock and the spread of the check clock.

It borders on tragic humor that this constant thorn in our side was originally designed for a different purpose by evolution: as an exclamation mark after an unpleasant situation, intended to save us in the end. For Homo sapiens, with their boundless creativity, this only works moderately well.

Unfortunately, it's not just the stress of the outside world – often enough, it's what we make of it between our ears. Recognizing the Rubicon between just barely feasible and completely unbearable is extremely tricky. Especially since – stressed as we are right now – we rarely think to breath out here and now.
