Milestones

If he had seen further than others, Isaac Newton wrote to John Hooke, it was only because he stood on the shoulders of giants.

Of course, the history of brain research also knows many giants, and it is precisely to them that the topic “Head and Content” is dedicated. Some are real pop stars today, while others are comparatively unknown. They are milestones in their own way, and we would like to pay tribute to them here.

You will find well-known Nobel Prize winners and some researchers who are not quite as well known outside the professional world – and of course historical figures. We will continue with this mix and even expand it to include younger, active researchers. After all, not every milestone has been honored with a Nobel Prize. While, admittedly, our idea of a milestone may be a little subjective...

Whichever mind we describe, the goal is not only to portray the work, but also the whole person in their time. Because many a brain that explores itself is housed in a striking head. Only then will the eventful history of brain research – and thus of humankind – become apparent.
However, this topic is covered in more detail elsewhere; some of the personalities who should be considered milestones can be found in the respective topics. ▸ Golgi and Cajal, for example, in ▸ Cell Communication – without them, there, the respective topic would not be complete. So if you are interested in milestones, simply click on the keyword at the bottom of the footer. But perhaps you would like to start here for some context: ▸ Minds and Ideas
